Three months of amenorrhea. No complaints.
Patient Data
The transabdominal grey-scale image reveals a posterior, low placenta with a small 'bubble-like' lucency close to the internal cervical os region, which shows color flow on the Doppler. Transvaginal scan shows low-lying posterior placenta reaching near the internal os. The umbilical cord insertion is at the lower placental margin. The cord is in close proximity to the internal cervical os.
Single live fetus. CRL is 70 mm, corresponding to 13 weeks and 2 days.
Migration of the placenta and umbilical cord away from the internal os. Fetal growth and anatomy were normal (images not uploaded).
Case Discussion
The case shows low-lying placenta, marginal cord insertion, and vasa previa at 13 weeks of gestational age.
Follow-up at 33 weeks of gestational age revealed migration of the placenta and the umbilical cord.
