Vastus intermedius muscle partial tear
History of trauma (2 months before examination). Swelling and pain growing by time.

There is a tear of the vastus intermedius muscle centrally, predominately involving the anterior fibers at the myotendinous junction. There is also an assoicated haematoma, with oedema collected behind rectus femoris muscle and througout the mid vastus intermedius, with minimal oedema in the overlying rectus femoris muscle.
Normal signal intensity of the other muscles and femur.
Partial tear of the anterior vastus intermedius muscle due to trauma, with hematoma in and around the tear. This is an example of a grade 2 tear.
