VATER: tracheo-esophageal fistula / esophageal atresia and anal atresia

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Regurgitation. No passage of meconium.

Patient Data

Age: 1 day
Gender: Male

No focal consolidation, collapse or pleura effusion. Cardiomediastinal contour within normal limits. Prominent lucency projects over the thoracic inlet.

Dilated loops of bowel with particularly in the pelvis with no rectal gas seen. No mural gas, intraperitoneal gas nor portal venous gas. 12 rib pairs. No vertebral segmental anomaly.      

Case Discussion

Both tracheo-oesophagel fistula (TOF) / esophageal atresia and anal atresia were treated surgically. The TOF must be distal to allow gas into the gastrointestinal tract.
