Venous malformation of the parotid gland

Case contributed by Roberto Schubert
Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Soft swelling of the right parotid gland with minimal flow on color coded ultrasound.

Patient Data

Age: 50
Gender: Female

Sharply delineated lession with very high signal on T2 and avid enhancement from the periphery to the center. Non-enhancing areas probably due to thrombotic material.

Case Discussion

This type of lesion is also labeled as a cavernous hemangioma in the pertinent literature. However unlike infantile hemangiomas, it is a congenital malformation, that does not regress spontaneously.
