Venous malformation (orbital)

Case contributed by Dr R Mannava

Incidental finding

Patient Data

Age: 68
Gender: Female

Initial study

Within the intraconal right orbit superolateral to the optic nerve is a homogenously enhancing, microlobulated, circumscribed mass.

3 years later. No treatment performed.

Decreased size of the orbital mass

Case Discussion

The mass spontaneously decreased in size on subsequent CT.  The mass again enlarged on a third CT obtained later (not shown).

The fluctuating size of the mass documented by CT is diagnostic of a venous malformation. The same can be elicited by repeating CT during valsalva maneuver to increase venous pressure.
