Vertical talus: rocker bottom foot

Rigid flat feet since started walking

Patient Data

Age: 12
Gender: Female

Obliquely orientated talus with the head sitting dorsal to the navicula.  The head also sits medially, the sole of foot is convex ("rocker bottom"), forefoot is abducted and dorsiflexed and the hindfoot is in equinovalgus.  Calcaneo-cuboid articluation can also be dislocated but not in this case

Case Discussion

This condition is characterised by an irreducible, dorsal dislocation of the navicula in relation to the talus and presents as a rigid flat foot.  It may be isolated or associated with chromosomal abnormalities, myelomeningocele and other neurologic disorders
