Tortuous ureter with severe dilatation of the ureter and the pelvicalyceal system is associated with the loss of fornices and papillary impressions on the right side (grade V).
Tortuous ureter with moderate dilatation also is associated with blunting of fornices but preserved the papillary impressions in the left side (grade IV).
Case Discussion
This is a case of bilateral vesicoureteric reflux (VUR) - grade V in the right side and grade IV in the left side.
Vesicoureteric reflux is the common cause of UTIs and fever in the newborns and children. Associated conditions, if left untreated, is pyelonephritis and reflux nephropathy.
