Presentation

Female child with recurrent urinary tract infection and bilateral hydronephrosis on ultrasound.

Patient Data

Age: 3 years
Gender: Female
Fluoroscopy

As soon as the contrast was injected into the urinary bladder, there was reflux on both sided reaching the bilateral renal pelves with mild dilatation of bilateral ureters and bilateral renal pelves, consistent with bilateral grade 3 vesico-ureteral reflux.

When voiding, there was reflux of contrast from the urethra to the vagina, consistent with vesicovaginal reflux.

Case Discussion

Vesicovaginal reflux can be a normal finding, but it can also result in a functional disorder with varied clinical presentation from asymptomatic bacteriuria to recurrent urinary and genital infections, frequency, urgency, daytime incontinence, and post-void dribbling.
