Papillary (lobulated) mass arising from the right vocal cord extending into the laryngeal airway
Case Discussion
Laryngeal papillomatosis is a condition associated with human papilloma virus infection and is characterized by recurrent papillomas in the laryngeal airway including the vocal cord as in this case. It is not thought to be sexually transmitted (by oral sex). It is treated by repeated surgical excision and antiviral medications. If left untreated it can cause substantial airway obstruction as in this case. It is not thought to be premalignant.
