Volar plate avulsion fracture of the middle phalanx

While playing football, the patient suffered a hyperextention injury to his middle finger. The PIP joint was especially tender on the volar surface.

Patient Data

Age: 35
Gender: Male

On the lateral view X-ray a volar plate avulsion fracture of the middle phalanx can be seen, without major dislocation or subluxation.

Case Discussion

Avulsion fractures of the digits, are frequent sport injuries.
