Volar ridge fracture of the trapezium

Presentation

Fall on the outstretched hand.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male

Hyperintense marrow signal on STIR and hypointense signal on T1 in the volar aspect of the trapezium. On the transverse gradient echo sequences, a small cortical defect at the base of the trapezial ridge can be seen. There is also hyperintense signal at the insertion of the flexor carpi radialis tendon, that may have been partially torn.
