Diffuse bilateral airspace opacification. Appropriately positioned endotracheal tube. Dual lumen VV ECMO catheter with tip in IVC.
Case Discussion
Acute respiratory failure secondary to severe pneumonia such as in this case may sometimes be managed by using extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). This is a venovenous ECMO catheter, with two separate lumens for venous drainage and return of oxygenated blood.
