Wallenberg's (lateral medullary) syndrome

Presentation

65 years old male patient with acute onset of dysphagia, slurred speech, ataxia, facial pain and vertigo.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years.
  • acute infarctions of the right lateral and posterior medulla as well as the posterior inferior aspect of the right cerebellum along the territorial supply of the the posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA). incidentally noted is right maxillary sinus mucocele  as well as bilateral otomastoiditis.
  • mild atrophic brain changes with mild periventricular arteriosclerotic leukoencephalopathy and bilateral cerebral demyelinating foci; representing old lacunar infarcts.
