Xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis

Case contributed by Dr Ipeson Korah

Incidental finding. CT done for malignancy followup

Patient Data

Age: 75

Thickened gallbladder wall with hypodense (cystic) spaces.  An impacted 3 cm hypodense calculus in the gallbladder neck.

Case Discussion

The gallbladder wall was normal but for a 3 cm non impacted calculus on a CT done about 8 months ago. It was thickened to a lesser degree and hypodense on a CT 4 months ago. A gallbladder neoplasm is a valid differential and has not been excluded. Known colonic malignancy and lymphoma in the past.
