FRCR Practice Exams, Series 3 2022

Each year Radiopaedia schedules a set of four online practice exams intended for individuals sitting the FRCR Part B Reporting Exam. These are time-limited exams that occur on the weekends leading up to the global exam sittings (see exam dates on the RCR website).

Each practice exam is designed for self-assessment, with each case accompanied by a model answerscoring guide, and five scored example answers typed by real candidates under exam conditions. Our test candidate results for each practice exam and corresponding actual FRCR Part 2 Reporting exam scores are shown below. All candidates passed the actual exam.

Exam 1 is available now and can be taken at any time before the 10th of September 2022. Exams 2, 3, and 4 will be held online on Saturday evenings (repeated on Sunday mornings) over three weeks commencing 10th September 2022 (see exam dates).

Exam dates

Practice Exam 1 is available once you register. Practice Exams 2, 3, and 4 will be delivered on Saturday evenings (7-10 pm BST) and repeated on Sunday mornings (7-10 am BST) over three consecutive weeks leading up to the exam. Note: exams 2, 3, and 4 can only be taken at these prescribed times. Also, note that the UK (BST) is 1 hour ahead of GMT.

  • Practice Exam 1 - Weekend of 3rd-4th September
  • Practice Exam 2 - Weekend of 10th-11th September
  • Practice Exam 3 - Weekend of 17th-18th September
  • Practice Exam 4 - Weekend of 24th-25th September
  • FRCR 2B exam: 30th September 2022

Online Exam Format

Each practice exam will consist of six cases drawn from different radiology subspecialties and may be single or multimodality. Cases will be generally pitched at a higher difficulty than the actual exam to challenge your answer technique and to extend your knowledge.

Each case has BACKMENU, and NEXT buttons to facilitate navigation through the exam. It is recommended that candidates set up a split-screen with the practice exam in one window and a word processing document in another window with ObservationsInterpretationDiagnosisDifferentialFurther Management as headings to type answers under.

While we have allowed a 3-hour window on Saturday evenings and again on Sunday mornings for registrants to access each practice exam, candidates should try to restrict themselves to no more than 75 minutes (12.5 minutes per case) in order to best simulate the actual FRCR 2B reporting exam. Note: only one device may access the exam per registered user account at any time

Scoring templates and example answers

Registrants will not submit their answers to Radiopaedia for marking. Instead, you will receive detailed scoring templates for each case and scored example answers provided by five real candidates who went on to sit the FRCR 2B Exam within two weeks of completing these practice exams (see results summary at the top of page). Our experience is that the scoring templates and example answers provide an excellent mechanism for self-assessment and improvement.

The case scoring templates and example answers for exams 2, 3, and 4 will be available directly after the Sunday morning session and will be accessible up until the next week's practice exam. After practice exam 4, the answers for all four practice exams (32 cases in total) will be accessible for viewing up until 1st October 2022. After this date, the exams and cases will no longer be accessible.

These practice exams are in no way approved or endorsed by the Royal College of Radiologists. We, Radiopedia Events Pty Ltd, have created these practice exams independently based on available information and the experience of our radiologists. While we have taken great efforts to produce a useful resource for candidates, we cannot take any responsibility for actual examination performance.

These practice exams are identical to those we previously ran in 2020 and 2021. Please consider this before registering if you have already completed these exams.

The cases used in these Practice Exams are (almost) the same as those featured in our RANZCR eFilm Reading Practice Exam, so we recommend only registering for one of the two and not both. The additional cases in the eFilm Reading Practice Exam are mainly Obstetric cases and those considered unlikely to be seen in an FRCR 2B exam.
