What is the difference between an true AP and mortice view?
The mortice view is slightly oblique and opens up the tibiotalar joint on the film. Mortice views should enable optimal assessment of the joint space and should always be performed where there is a history of trauma.
How is a base of 5th metatarsal fracture differentiated from an unfused apophysis?
Fractures are transverse injuries while the unfused apophysis is orientated parallel to the longitudinal axis of the bone.
Is a cause for pain identified?
Yes. There is a fracture through the base of the 5th metatarsal.
Soft tissue swelling, but a normal ankle joint with no tibial or fibular injury. Normal talus.
However, on the lateral view there is a minimally displaced base-of-5th metatarsal fracture.
