The Faculty of Medicine of Al-Azhar University was established in on1961 in Nasr City, Cairo. The College grants a Bachelor's degree in medicine and surgery as well as master's and Ph.D. degrees in all medical specialties and most subspecialties.

Several research and teaching hospitals are affiliated with the college: Al-Hussein Hospital, Cairo (1505 beds, 2023), Sayed Galal Hospital, Cairo (1200 beds, 2023),  Alzahraa Hospital, Cairo (811 beds), Islamic Center for Heart Diseases and surgeries in Cairo, Alazhar university Hospital in New Damietta (891 beds), and Alazhar university Hospital in Assiut.

The radiology departments in all hospitals provide high-quality services for patients, residents, and researchers which cover almost all different types of radiology examinations (X-ray, Fluoroscopy, Mammography, Ultrasound, Doppler ultrasound, CT, MRI, Interventional radiology, and nuclear medicine).
