Founded in 1772 under the name "San Juan de Dios" which was changed in the year 1929 to "Hospital Carlos Van Buren" in honor to whom granted the resources for the reconstruction of the compound after the earthquake in 1906 and also was in charge of the administration for two decades. 

Carlos van Buren Hospital is the main health center in the Valparaíso Region. It has around 540 beds and its regional referral center for Oncology and Neurosurgery. 

The radiology department is equipped with 1 CT Scanner, 1 MRI Scanner, 1 Angiography room, 2 Ultrasound Machines, 3 x-ray machines (1 with dual-energy capabilities), and one mammography unit.
