The College of Medicine, the first of 19 colleges at Tikrit University opened in 1988 with a mission to increase the supply of highly qualified physicians, provide advanced health-care services to the community of Tikrit city and Saladin province and be a pioneer in health research. It is the first college in Iraq to adopt Problem Based Learning (community-based learning) with a small group teaching. The college offers a graduate degree in Medicine and General Surgery. Since graduating its first medical students in 1995, the college has graduated more than 870 physicians. The College of Medicine campus is comprised of 4 clinical and 7 basic science branches staffed by medical faculty members.The college campus is located near Tikrit Teaching Hospital and the staff members are working with the physicians and scientists there to deliver medical care in an urban setting, performing research and educating medical students and residents.
