Metatarsus adductus

Discussion:

Club foot consists of four components:

  1. Hindfoot equinus
  2. Hindfoot varus
  3. Metatarsus adductus
  4. Talonavicular subluxation

In metatarsus adductus there is medial deviation of the first metatarsal with medial displacement of the other metatarsals on the cuneiforms (talus to first metatarsal angle greater than 15º).

It is usually bilateral and may be associated with dysplasia of hip joint. It can be congenital or acquired and is considered as the most common congenital foot abnormality. It is associated with: hallux valgus deformity, congenital club foot, developmental dysplasia of the hip.
