Gastric lymphoma

Discussion:

This patient had a large ulcerated tumor on the lesser curvature of the stomach. Gastrectomy specimen showed gastric lymphoma. The differential diagnosis is gastric carcinoma and gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). The stomach is the commonest site of extranodal lymphoma (25%), but gastric lymphoma represents only 5% of all gastric malignancies. Most are B-cell non-Hodgkins lymphoma of the mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT lymphoma) and are associated with Helicobacter pylori.
