CT scan demonstrates right-sided hydronephrosis and hydroureter because the right ureter passes behind the inferior vena cava at the level of lower endplate of L3 vertebra. The ureter exits medially between the cava and the aorta to return to its normal position. The distal third of the ureter has normal diameter.
