Breast areolar calcification

Discussion:

The calcifications are typically benign and are developed within the Montgomery glands of the areola. The woman is 50 years old and did not have surgery. The nipples are normal and no mass is present.

They are a rare finding that must be differentiated from pleomorphic subareolar calcifications of intraductal carcinoma and from benign calcifications in the skin of the areola, secondary to surgery.
