What sort of hernia?
Femoral hernia - origin below the level of the inferior epigastric vessels and close medial relation to the femoral vein.
Are femoral hernias more common in females or males?
There is a predilection for females.
What complications are evident?
(1) small bowel obstruction; (2) early ischaemia of the incarcerated bowel loop
Small bowel obstruction secondary to left femoral hernia. The loop that is within the hernia is thickened but normally enhancing walls.
Perihepatic and left paracolic gutter free fluid. No free gas.
Extensive colonic diverticula disease. Within liver segment six and four are subcentimetre hypodensities which are too small to characterise.
Conclusion:
Small bowel obstruction secondary to left femoral hernia. Evidence of early ischaemia within the entrapped small bowel loop.
