Medial medullary syndrome

Discussion:

This case illustrates features of the spectrum of medial medullary syndrome characterized by infarct involving the medial aspect of the medulla oblongata in the brain stem causing contralateral hemiplegia/hemiparesis as well as a hemisensory loss with ipsilateral hypoglossal palsy (ipsilateral tongue weakness and atrophy) from the involvement of CN XII nucleus.
