What is the calcification and what does it signify?
Appendicolith. When seen on plain films, in the right clinical context, it suggests a 90% likelihood of appendicitis.
Non contrast CT KUB obtained to evaluate for renal stones demonstrates the appendix, located behind and lateral to the caecum (paracecal), with evidence of acute inflammation and a luminal faecolith at its base. No renal or ureteric calculi. No free gas.
