Buckle (torus) fractures occur when the bony cortex is compressed and bulges. These fractures are more common in children due to the elasticity of their bones.

Buckle fractures of the distal radius are common in children between 2 and 12 years of age. Cosmetic or functional consequences have not been reported in association with buckle fractures. These fractures are commoner than greenstick fractures and treatment with a removable splint is just as effective as a short arm cast ¹.
