Radial styloid fracture with expelled scaphoid and lunate

Presentation

Motor bike accident while traveling at high speed. Severe limb and spinal injuries.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male
  • Fractured radial styloid involving the radiocarpal articular surface

  • The distal radial styloid fracture fragment is radially displaced and rotated by approximately 90 degrees

  • The scaphoid and lunate have been expelled from the proximal carpal row, and are now located in the soft tissues volar to the distal radius

Intraoperative image

  • The radial styloid fracture has been fixed with a plate, screws and wires
  • The previously severely dislocated scaphoid and lunate have been returned to their anatomical position in the proximal carpal row

Case Discussion

This case demonstrates a severe fracture dislocation injury of the radial styloid and proximal carpal bones.
