Intestinal volvulus

Discussion:

The teenager girl showed up to an emergency department with the acute pain in paraumbilical region. All laboratory tests were negative. No vomits and fewer. Normal stools before.

Physical examination revealed painful abdomen centrally for palpation.

Abdominal ultrasound showed whirlpool sign with normal blood flow in mesenteric vessels, slightly thickened intestinal wall without peristalsis and slightly enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes.

The girl was observed in the hospital for few days. As the condition resolved spontaneously and no signs of ileus were found, the patient was discharged home.
