Supine and flat on the fluoroscopy table. Then use a small bean bag/ bolster under the knee and internally rotating the leg (foot) with the placement of a further bean bag on the lateral aspect of the ipsilateral foot to maintain an internally rotated position. The slight knee flexion takes tension off the hip joint and the internal rotation of the leg medially displaces the neurovascular structures.
The hip to be injected should be closest to the side of the table the practitioner will be working from, which will prevent leaning over the patient. The room should accommodate this positioning, so the practitioner should not have to excessively turn their head during the procedure to see the screen.
