Is a pneumoperitoneum in this patient, who is day 2 days post cholecystectomy a concerning finding?
Iatrogenic pneumoperitoneum is a common benign finding in erect chest radiographs of post-operative patients. It is rarely of any clinical significance. The fact that the patient's surgery was recent and the pneumoperitoneum is small is reassuring.
Linear atelectasis in the left middle zone, and diffuse interstitial markings. No features of focal consolidation.
Air under the right hemidiaphragm indicative of small pneumoperitoneum. This is consistent with history of recent abdominal surgery.
