En face view of colonic mucosa. This is the distal-most 24cm of the total colon, which was 114cm long. The distal half of the colon was more severely involved by the confluent pseudomembranes, although some involvement was present throughout the entire length.
Longitudinal sections through colon wall. The upper slice, which was from the proximal colon, shows discrete pseudomembranes. The lower slice shows confluent involvement in the distal colon.
