Incidence of azygous cannulation?

Radiologists must be able to recognize such catheter malpositioning as inadvertent azygos venous cannulation may be complicated by: · Azygos vein perforation · Azygos vein thrombosis · Azygos vein stenosis · Extravasation · Increased pain during infusion These complications occur at a higher rate than that seen with cannulation of the superior vena cava or proximal right atrium.
