Abdominal schwannomas

Discussion:

Histologically proven case of abdominal nerve sheath tumors (schwannoma).

A biopsy obtained from the epigastric mass with the histology showed:

  • fragments of pseudocapsulated bland-looking proliferated spindle cells with wavy nuclei and elongated eosinophilic cytoplasm
  • focal palisading
  • sections with cord-like structures proved to be nerve bundle surrounded by fibrofatty tissue entangling small nerve bundles
  • no atypia or malignancy
  • marker study revealed positive reaction to S-100
