What are the advantages of contrast-enhanced ultrasound in the follow-up of traumatic kidney injury compared to CT and conventional ultrasound examinations?
There is no radiation or nephrotoxicity in comparison with the CT. The sensitivity for renal vascular abnormalities is higher than the sensitivity of color Doppler studies.
CEUS revealed a 2 cm, wedge shaped avascular area in the mid-portion of the left kidney. Note the fine enhancing subcapsular streak and a few traversing vessels in keeping with ongoing parenchymal remodelling.
Completely homogeneous appearance and diffusely uniform enhancement of the spleen can be seen.
