The spleen is the most commonly injured visceral organ in blunt abdominal trauma. A missed splenic injury is one of the most common cause of preventable death in a patient with trauma.

CT is the modality of choice to image haemodynamically stable patients with blunt abdominal trauma with an overall diagnostic accuracy of approximately 95%.
