The occurrence of subcutaneous calcifications (calcinosis cutis) in an autoimmune disorder (scleroderma) has been first described by the French dermatologists Georges Thiebierge and Raymond Weissenbach in 1911. Hence, it is sometimes referred to as Thiebierge-Weissenbach syndrome.
