Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male

There is a small osseous bump in the right femoral head neck junction lateral aspect.

Case Discussion

The Dunn views are performed with the patient supine and affected hip flexed 45 degrees and 90 degrees, both with 20 degrees abduction 1.

The 45 degrees Dunn view is also known as a modified Dunn's view. The only difference being the degree of flexion in the hip. Both views may be performed for comparison purposes based on different department protocols.

It is important to ensure that the hip is not rotated and kept in a neutral position for accurate assessment of the alpha angle of the hip for impingement 2.
