Distal radius fracture

Presentation

Fall onto an outstretched left hand from a skateboard, came in pain and swelling around the wrist.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

There is an impacted, dorsally displaced and angulated greenstick fracture involving the distal radius with possible fracture extension to the articular surface. There is associated overlying soft tissue swelling and deformity of the wrist.

Further, there is a minimally displaced avulsion fracture of ulnar styloid process. The alignment of the carpal arches is within normal limits.

Mildly comminuted fracture and dorsally angulated of the distal radial metaphysis. Avulsion fracture of the ulnar styloid process. No acute displaced fracture or malalignment of the carpal bones.

Post Reduction xray

x-ray

There is interval reduction of previously identified dorsally angulated distal radius fracture. The alignment is nearly anatomical.

Case Discussion

Post CT wrist ,closed reduction was done under sedation in ED. Sandwich slab was placed. Repeat x-ray was done which showed good alignment. He was referred to fracture clinic for follow up.
