Presentation

Acute onset, atraumatic origin of the right wrist pain on the palmar, ulnar side for the last one day.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female

There are two calcific foci in the distal end of the flexor carpi ulnaris near the pisiform. One of the calcification focus is well-defined and dense. The other one is ill-defined with a possible leak of calcium in the adjacent soft tissue. The rest of the tendon shows normal echopattern. The tendon itself is intact. There is soft tissue edema around the tendon without any collection. There was no other abnormality in the rest of the palmar wrist region.

The contralateral asymptomatic tendon was examined for comparison; it shows a normal echopattern.

Case Discussion

The case shows flexor carpi ulnaris calcific tendinosis as the cause of acute wrist pain.
