Fracture healing - callus

Case contributed by Ian Bickle
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Follow-up 4 weeks post mid humerus fracture.

Patient Data

Age: 2 months
Gender: Male
x-ray

Extensive callus formation at the site of a fracture of the mid humerus.

The fracture line remains evident.

Case Discussion

Florid callus formation following a relatively trivial initial fracture in an infant (during delivery). Note that any long bone fracture in a non ambulatory child should raise concern for non accidental injury (NAI) if no appropriate history is given by the carers.
