Patient Data
Fractures are observed in the left superior and inferior pubic rami.
Comminuted fractures are noted in the body of the right pubis and the right inferior pubic ramus.
A fracture is observed in the left S1-S3 sacral ala. The sacroiliac joints are normal.
Soft tissue swelling is evident in the left lateral wall of the pelvis.
Conclusions: lateral compression fracture (grade I) of the left pelvic ring with fractures in the contralateral body of the right pubis and the right inferior pubic ramus.
Case Discussion
Lateral compression fracture is the most common type of pelvic ring fracture, where the force vector causes lateral compression of the pelvic ring. Grade 1 lateral compression fractures are considered stable, whereas grades 2 and 3 exhibit rotational and multidirectional instability 1.
