Lobar pneumonia

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Shortness of breath along with intermittent fever for a few days.

Patient Data

Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
ct

Expiratory phase CT.

Focal occlusion of the bronchus intermedius.

There is a large patch of consolidation with an air-bronchogram which involves the right lower lobe.

Minimal right-sided pleural effusion is noted.

The rest of the lungs appear unremarkable bilaterally.

Case Discussion

Current CT findings and clinical presentation of the patient favor of lobar pneumonia along with ipsilateral parapneumonic effusion as described above.

Bronchoscopy was not performed and follow-up imaging is not available.
