Presentation

Right lower abdominal pain following an upper respiratory tract infection.

Patient Data

Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
ct

Enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes (short axis diameter up to 10 mm), clustered mainly in the right lower quadrant, anterior and lateral to the psoas muscle.

Thickening of the terminal ileum (thickness = 7 mm, length = 8 cm). Normal appendix of retrocecal location.

Case Discussion

The clinical history and the CT features are most consistent with mesenteric adenitis.

Mesenteric adenitis is a self-limiting inflammatory process that affects the mesenteric lymph nodes in the right lower quadrant and typically abates over a few weeks.
