Post sleeve gastrectomy with abscess

Presentation

Sleeve surgery two years ago followed by long-term history of fevers and chills. The patient was a known case of Wilson disease.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male
  • status post gastric sleeve operation

  • splenomegaly associated with a large splenorenal shunt draining portal venous blood into the left extra-hilar main renal vein

  • hypodense gas containing collection/abscess in the left upper quadrant and next to the spleen parenchyma

Case Discussion

Sleeve gastrectomy is a bariatric surgical procedure involving resection of the greater curvature of the fundus and body of the stomach.

The patient presented with a long-term history of fever and chills after a sleeve gastrectomy two years ago. The clinical presentation and CT features are in keeping with localized fluid collection or abscess in the left upper quadrant.
