Presentation

Progressive skin hardening and thickening, difficulty flexing fingers, and joint pain. Positive Raynaud's phenomenon.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

Bilateral and symmetrical distal soft tissue calcifications extending towards the distal phalanges of the hands. No joint space narrowing or evidence of fracture.

Case Discussion

Scleroderma may be characterized by unique radiographic features in the hands. Calcinosis, or soft tissue calcifications, are radiographic characteristics that usually manifest as dense, well-defined nodular deposits.
