Cortical discontinuity involving the shaft of second metatarsal with surrounding periosteal reaction suggestive of healing stress fracture.
Generally thin bone cortex suggests osteoporosis.
Case Discussion
Stress fractures occur due to mechanical stress on bone. Fatigue fractures are due to excessive repetitive loads on normal bone and insufficiency fractures are due to normal loads on weakened bone.
