Tenosynovial giant cell tumor - index finger

Case contributed by Bahman Rasuli
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Right-hand index finger: gradual swelling.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female

A well-defined lobulated abnormal signal (low on T1/high on PD FS and STIR) soft tissue mass lesion measuring about 10 x 12 x 15 mm is abutting the ventromedial aspect of the flexor tendon sheath of the index finger proximal phalanx, causing a focal contour bulge.

No intra-osseous extension of the mass is seen.

Case Discussion

Regarding the imaging findings, a tenosynovial giant cell tumor arising from the flexor tendon sheath of the index finger is the main diagnosis. On imaging, these lesions are commonly demonstrated as localized, solitary, subcutaneous soft tissue nodules with low T1 and T2 signals and moderate enhancement.
