Presentation

Right groin swelling, pain, and fever.

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Male
ct

Right-sided inguinal hernia noted through a defect measuring 1.6 cm. Inflamed appendix is noted within this hernia. No evidence of intestinal obstruction or perforation. Sigmoid diverticulosis noted. Rest of the bowel loops are unremarkable.

Inflammation of the appendix is observed within the inguinal canal.

Case Discussion

An inguinal hernia with appendix as its content is known as Amyand hernia. It is a rare occurrence with less than 2% of all hernias.
