A loculated left pleural effusion with thickened surrounding pleura and gas bubble that communicates with an organized, subcutaneous chest-wall abscess collection.
The left lung is atelectatic. No right-sided pleural effusion.
Case Discussion
Empyema necessitans is a rare complication of pleural infection most frequently secondary to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection reactivation whereby empyema dissects into the chest wall.
